From a theater kid who grew up listening to Green Day, to an alt-rock global artist heading out on the massive “Bigger Than You Think” tour with rock legends Simple Plan, LØLØ’s journey began when she picked up a guitar at a young age and never looked back.
1202 MAGAZINE sat with LØLØ to discuss her biggest influences growing up, the future of her career as an artist, and her latest song release “the devil wears converse.” Her upbringing has shaped the music she produces, and LØLØ tells us that her main inspiration comes from her childhood as a theatre kid who loved Green Day, Avril Lavigne, and Hilary Duff. She writes dramatically, inspired by Taylor Swift’s knack for storytelling.
While her music is pop, she incorporates rock elements into her songs, inspired by her favorite artists from her youth. Her experiences also shape her writing. “All my songs are based on personal experiences, sometimes, a little too accurately for people’s liking,” she says. “I like to be brutally honest and share a lot of details about my experiences when I write.”
LØLØ’s music style as an alt-rock and pop-punk artist is quite reminiscent of early 2000s rock. She tells us that, “Growing up on Green Day and Avril Lavigne is what caused this to happen.” Her style came naturally to her as she makes music that she would also enjoy listening to, which are her favorite genres. “I like to think that I put my own special spin on it, and lyrics and concepts are super important to me when I’m writing a song or making an album.”

In her latest single, “the devil wears converse,” LØLØ wrote the lyrics about temptation and finding yourself accidentally falling in love. She tells us that the title of the song is inspired by the movie The Devil Wears Prada, and that she’s been trying to nail that title for quite some time. She had previously written an entirely different version of the song and recently brought it up again in a songwriting session, creating the hit that is now being released.
We were curious about her thoughts on the massive North American tour with global icons Simple Plan that she will be embarking on in August. “We were actually supposed to go on tour together in 2021, but COVID had other plans,” she says. “Touring with Simple Plan has been in the works for a very long time.” On her birthday in 2020, her friends gifted her a Cameo video message from the lead singer, Pierre Bouvier, stating that he heard she was a fellow Canadian pop-punker and hopes to listen to her music one day.
“And now we’re touring together, so we sort of manifested this,” she tells us. While LØLØ’s style very much falls within the rock genre, she says, “I’m always trying to explore other sub-genres. On my debut album, I have a few slower singing tracks, and those are honestly my favourite to write.” She teased that her next album is leaning more towards that direction and a bit further away from pop-rock, while still keeping that punk attitude that she’s left her mark with.
LØLØ strives to pursue her career as an artist with big dreams. Her dream artist to collaborate with would probably be Green Day, but her dream person to write a song with would be Taylor Swift. She also has big dreams of headlining at Coachella, so make sure to check out her new single now on streaming platforms, and keep an eye out for her as a future Coachella headliner!
