Telfar’s “Plastic” Bags Take Us Back to the Basics

New York City banned plastic bags in 2020, but Telfar cleverly went around that law.

What we know and love about Telfar has been blown out of the water—they have raised their own bar. For years (and still, to this day), Telfar has been acclaimed for small, medium, and large shopping bags. They then stepped their game up and added apparel and a wider variety of bags and collaborations, which are also always sold out.

Now, Telfar is back with “plastic” bags. Paying homage to the everyday bags we use for various functions, Telfar created a more sustainable, fashionable bag that doesn’t need to go in that random drawer stuffed with plastic bags inside one another (we all have one).

New York City banned plastic bags in 2020, but Telfar cleverly went around that law. The “plastic” bags, which come in 11 New York Telfar prints, feature double lining with ruched elastic handles, tonal seams, and two deep side pockets.

Available in two sizes, the regular size ($148) can fit a 13-inch laptop with everyday essentials. The jumbo size ($195) is similar to the size of a carry-on—fitting just about everything you would need for a short trip, overnight stay at the situationship’s place, or a long day running around the city. You can shop Telfar’s “plastic” bags at telfar.net and their flagship store at 408 Broadway in New York City.
