Late last month, New York City played host to an elegant convergence of fashion and real estate at Couture for a Cause—a private fashion presentation and drinks reception hosted by Drishti Gangwani, founder of Closr, a cause-driven independent designer platform; and Katherine Van Brunt, the Global Advisor at The Global Wealth Office at Nest Seekers. The event held at the historic Lincoln Isham House sought to spotlight a new path forward for independent couture designers navigating rising production costs, global trade limitations, and shifting retail models.

With the ever-changing economic conditions and soaring production costs, such as tariffs continuing to weigh down emerging designers globally, especially those producing ethically and at a couture level, traditional retail channels have become harder to break into. Couture for a Cause offered an alternative, intimate route for showings, directly linking designers to clients and bypassing the gatekeepers. For Van Brunt and Gangwani, this convergence of fashion and real estate was more than staging, but a strategy underscoring a different model of selling fashion and homes.

Banking on Nest Seekers, a renowned luxury real estate brokerage firm, in its aim to showcase these luxury spaces in innovative and captivating ways, and Closr’s mission to empower unconventional intent-focused fashion creatives, the Lincoln Isham House rooms were each transformed into a personalized salon. Each designer showcased their collection in an intimate setting, allowing guests to connect directly with the designers, book private consultations, and place orders. The hands-on approach by the platform has been key in building emotional connection by giving them [creatives] more control over how their work is seen, sold, and celebrated.

By embracing the intersection of fashion, art, and commerce, avenues and events such as Couture for a Cause continue to be a testament to the power of resourcefulness and partnership in the face of adversity and contemporary market trends, offering a model that’s dear, intentional, and adaptable. With visionaries like Closr and Nest Seekers leading the way, this could mark the beginning of couture’s next chapter, one where it not only survives but evolves.
